The Department of Turkish Language and Literature is one of the youngest at the Faculty of Humanities. It enrolled the first generation of students in the 2012/2013 academic year. The teaching process at the Department takes place within two study cycles – the first and second cycles, with a total duration of five years. In the first study cycle, teaching takes place within eight semesters (four years).
The study program defines the key values and concept of the study. Within the first and second years of study, students acquire basic knowledge in Turkology, starting from basic concepts in linguistics, theory and history of literature to the context of Turkish culture. In the first two years of study, the focus is on developing language skills, understanding the literary and cultural characteristics of a foreign area. In the third and fourth years, the program offers students a gradual transition to a higher level of knowledge, and interest is directed towards more complex content that includes different types of translation, more modern linguistic research and newer forms of literary creation. At the same time, students are prepared for modern teaching of Turkish language and literature in primary and secondary schools. They are educated for active engagement in the social community, a professional attitude towards students and the application of classical knowledge in a new contemporary context with the aim of maintaining the durability of knowledge, preserving and transferring fundamental humanistic values to younger generations.
After passing all the exams provided for in this curriculum at the undergraduate level, the student, having achieved 240 ECTS points , acquires the professional title of Professor of Turkish Language and Literature. After completing the undergraduate studies, the student can continue his master's studies (IX and X semesters, a total of 60 ECTS points) in the teaching field, where after successful completion of the study, he acquires the title of Master of Turkish Language and Literature, which enables him to fully integrate into the labor market.
